PHOTOS: Ex-Porn Star Teacher Stacie Halas Loses Appeal For Her Job
Stacie Halas, 32, a middle school science teacher who was fired by administrators for a previous career in pornography, lost her appeal to win back her job.
Halas was dismissed from her job at Haydock Intermediate School in Oxnard, Calif., in April after students and teachers discovered videos of Halas online. According to her attorney, Richard Schwab, Halas did porn for eight months between 2005 and 2006, when her boyfriend had left her and she was suffering from financial woes.
"Although her pornography career has concluded, the ongoing availability of her pornographic materials on the Internet will continue to impede her from being an effective teacher and respected colleague," said Judge Julie Cabos-Owen in the 46-page decision issued Friday by the Commission on Professional Competence. The commission’s ruling was a unanimous 3-0.
"We were hoping we could show you could overcome your past," said Schwab. "I think she's representative of a lot of people who may have a past that may not involve anything illegal or anything that hurts anybody.”
Halas’ decision to engage in such behavior was “incompatible with her responsibilities as a role model for students," District superintendent Jeff Chancer said in a statement.
