A research team from the University of Auckland was out studying feeding frenzies when they came across something far more remarkable: an octopus taking a ride on a shark’s back. The shark was identified as a short-fin mako, and its tentacled passenger as a Maori octopus. Professor Rochelle Constantine said this made the combination all the more mysterious, as “octopus are mostly on the seabed while short-fin mako sharks don’t favor the deep.” (Credit: Wednesday Davis/Esther Stuck/University of Auckland. via Storyful)
