PHOTOS: 2013 Pirelli Calendar Features Stunning Women Of Brazil

The Pirelli calendar, long known for its racy content, has changed it up. The 2013 version and 40th overall, features fully clothed actresses and supermodels as they navigate through Brazil. It is the third time a Pirelli calendar has used Brazil as a backdrop.

There are 34 images total with 23 portraits of some of the most beautiful women in the world. Among the most notable are actress Sonia Braga, 62, a visibly pregnant Adriana Lima, 31 and Petra Nemcova, 33.

“I tried to portray Brazil, its landscape, its economy and its culture, along with the human element," said photographer Steve McCurry, 62. “This was the story I wanted to tell through my lens. For me photography is an important expressive means to tell large and small stories of daily life.”

Each of the models and actresses portrayed is known for their charitable work. For example, Braga has long been an advocate for children’s rights, with a special emphasis placed on children’s education. “Too often, we, in the first world, look at education as separate from basic necessities like having enough to eat and having a decent place to sleep,” she said.

Launched in 1964, the calendar is famous for its exclusivity as only special customers and VIP’s of the auto parts company are able to receive them. Some of the most famous photographers in the world have shot this calendar including Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz and Herb Ritts. Among the models and actresses who have appeared in the calendar are Sophia Loren, 78, Naomi Campbell, 42, Cindy Crawford, 46 and Heidi Klum, 39.
