Meghan Markle’s former supporter, comedian Katherine Ryan, has slammed Markle’s newest Netflix venture, Love, Meghan.

In 2022, Ryan praised Markle for her “challenging the norm and what’s expected of her in that role.”Previously a strong ally, Ryan had such an adverse reaction to Markle’s cooking show that she has apparently changed her stance.

“I liked Meghan Markle,” she said on her podcast Telling Everybody Everything. “I was rooting for Meghan Markle…though she is very Hollywood – even for me – and I don’t like that in people…I see now, and maybe it’s just the projects she’s choosing, it does feel like she has lied about whether she knew who Prince Harry was, and these details about her childhood change and don’t add up.”

Ryan evidenced, “She said on her new Netflix show that they ate TV dinners growing up…but then in an old interview, she was like, ‘We would eat farm fresh.’ Her whole act just seems very manicured and forced.”

The comedian did however clarify that she doesn’t think Markle is a bad person, but rather, “likes cozying up to celebrities and she wants the hundred-million-dollar deal and she likes the fact that she’s married to a prince. Of course. But I would rather someone lean into that and be like, ‘Oh my God, I used to be on Suits and now I’m married to a prince. I would rather that than this act of ‘Oh, I’m just so humble.’”

Love, Meghan was released last Tuesday and has been met with a slew of almost unanimously negative reviews. Despite critics’ claims that the show feels “artificial” and “uncomfortable,” the eight-part series had a successful level of viewership, and Netflix has already announced a forthcoming second season.

However, an insider at Netflix shared that Love, Meghan has not been a runaway success and Netflix green lighting season two does not mean that Markle and Prince Harry’s $5 million deal will be renewed.

Ryan reasoned, “People are hate-watching it… who knows what Netflix is doing? They are smart – whether they love something or hate something, whatever keeps them watching more episodes. Netflix’s intention [is like], ‘Let’s throw Meghan under the bus where even people who really liked her are turning.’”

Love, Meghan currently has a rating of 2.9 out of 10 on IMDB.
