Oprah Winfrey will have a recurring role on her newest OWN series, Greenleaf, it was announced on Thursday.

Oprah Winfrey To Appear On OWN Original Series Greenleaf

Winfrey, who will also act as executive producer on the new series, has had a kind of on-screen comeback in recent years with supporting roles in Lee Daniels’ The Butler and Selma. Now, the media mogul is ready to step behind the camera once again for her network’s newest original drama.

Greenleaf will tell the story of the Greenleaf family, heads of a Memphis megachurch. The drama will star Keith David (Community) as Bishop James Greenleaf, the leader of the ministry, and Lynn Whitfield as his wife, Lady Mae Greenleaf. David and Whitfield will be joined by Merle Dendridge (The Night Shift), as their estranged daughter, and Desiree Ross (Falling Skies) as their granddaughter.

Winfrey is set to appear in a handful of episodes, joining the cast as Mavis McCready, Lady Mae’s sister. Greenleaf is aiming for a 2016 premiere.
