A New York City taxi driver was fined $500 after his refusal to pick up Al Roker and his son last year.

After the incident, Roker filed a complaint in November and wrote on social media he and his son had been ignored for racial reasons. Roker commented that the driver picked up a white man a block away. The tweet said “Filed a complaint today after getting passed up again by a NYC Yellow cab. Cabbie picked up a white guy a block away. Wonder why Uber wins?”

Roker tweeted again saying “This happens to folks of color every day. And while most cabbies do their job, there are those ignorant, racist ones who hurt the others”

The Taxi and Limousine Commission says driver, Mahabur Rahman, made his plea last month and was fined $500. According to the Commission, this was the second time Rahman was cited for a pickup refusal.

The TLC notified Roker of the guilty plea, but NBC has made no comment.
