NBA Star Tristan Thompson Granted Temporary Guardianship Of Epileptic Brother Amari, 17, After Mom’s Death
NBA star Tristan Thompson is now the temporary guardian of his younger brother Amari, after their mother died on January 5.
Thompson, 32, requested sole legal guardianship of 17-year-old brother Amari on September 8. The request was granted with Thompson having “all powers a parent having legal custody of a child would have.”
Amari Thompson has epilepsy, among other conditions, and requires around-the-clock support, leading Thompson to request guardianship.
Thompson was also granted the authority to “manage ward’s finances and assets, travel with the ward within the United States of America and internationally, enroll ward in social and other extracurricular activities, decide living arrangements of the ward [and] obtain legal counsel on behalf of the ward,” according to court documents.
Thompson intends to assist his brother in managing their mother’s inheritance. Thompson told the court that their father, Trevor Thompson, has been absent from the family’s life since 2014. Thompson added that he was Amari’s closest family member.
Following his mother’s death, Thompson was joined by his former partner, Khloe Kardashian, 39, on a flight to Toronto to join his family. Thompson and Kardashian have two children together, a son, Tatum, 13 months, and a daughter, True, 5.
Tristan has apologized for repeatedly cheating on Kardashian while they were together.
Amari lives with the NBA free agent in Hidden Hills, California.
