Lizzo posted on social media saying she “quits.”

The 35-year-old Grammy Award-winning musician posted a paragraph to her Instagram Story on Friday detailing her frustrations about her public image.

“I’m tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” she said. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for cloud & views . . . being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look . . . my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this s—. I QUIT.”

Since the beginning of her career, Lizzo has been targeted for being plus-sized. The harsh comments almost led to the musician ending her career in a series of posts to X, still Twitter at the time, from May 2023.

In August 2023, Lizzo faced controversy after three of her former background dancers sued the musician for alleged sexual harassment and abusive working conditions. The dancers accused Lizzo of making body-shaming comments despite Lizzo’s background of body positivity. The three dancers also claimed Lizzo forced them to touch a naked dancer and was open about her sexual fantasies.

The lawsuit led to Lizzo facing a barrage of online criticism. Lizzo attempted to get the case dismissed but was denied. In November 2023, Lizzo posted to social media that she was taking time to care for herself.

Fans are unsure of what Lizzo meant by “I quit.” Some speculate that Lizzo may be taking more time to herself as she has done in the past. Her post was met with support from fellow musicians such as Latto, who wrote:

“The ppl need u Lizzo,” one fan wrote. “I remember U made me keep going when I wanted to quit before.”
