Leonardo DiCaprio Criticized For Using Private Jet To Receive Environmental Award
Leonardo DiCaprio is being criticized for using a private jet to travel to New York to receive an environmental award last Wednesday.
Only a few months after giving a speech at the Oscars about climate change, DiCaprio used a private jet from Cannes to New York City to accept the Big Fish environmental award at the RiverKeeper Fishermen’s Ball. The actor then used a private jet to return to Cannes a day later to attend the 2016 amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala and give a speech.
DiCaprio claims he caught a ride with someone else who was already flying back and forth from Cannes and New York. “Leo helped both events raise millions, donated his own funds, auctioned off his house and had speaking roles in both programs,” his rep told Us magazine.
Many critics took to social media to comment on DiCaprio’s actions. One said, “Thanks Leonardo Dicaprio 4 flying your private jet across country 2 feed BS 2 feckless UN. Your carbon footprint stinks of double standards.”
