Entrepreneur and model Karlie Kloss, alongside her husband, billionaire investor Joshua Kushner, have embarked on a mission to resurrect the renowned Life magazine after more than two decades of dormancy.

Joshua is the brother of former White House aide Jared Kushner.

Life Magazine, which was a popular weekly publication from 1936 until Time Inc. ceased its regular publication in 1972, experienced a revival in 1978 as a monthly magazine before being suspended again in 2000.

Now, under the ownership of Bedford Media, the publication is poised to reclaim its prominent position in the media landscape.

The groundbreaking announcement came from Kloss and Kushner’s Bedford Media, in which a partnership with Dotdash Meredith was revealed. This collaboration paves the way for the revival of Life magazine as a thriving media property, with a renewed commitment to consistent and vibrant distribution. Dotdash Meredith, a subsidiary of IAC, emerged after it acquired Meredith for a staggering $2.7 billion, after Meredith’s own acquisition of Time Inc., the previous steward of LIFE. Bedford Media had recently acquired the esteemed fashion publication i-D Magazine from Vice Media Group, further cementing its growing influence in the media landscape.

While the specific details of the agreement between Bedford Media and Dotdash Meredith remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that Bedford Media will assume full operational responsibility for the reimagined Life magazine. This encompasses overseeing editorial strategies, revenue generation and various media initiatives.

Dotdash Meredith will retain complete ownership of the extensive Life photography and content archives, spanning back to the 1930s. Additionally, Dotdash Meredith will continue to publish single-topic special interest magazines under the Life brand to ensure their availability on newsstands.

Kloss, the CEO of Bedford Media, expressed her vision for the revival of Life magazine, “We see Life as an uplifting and unifying voice in a chaotic media landscape… While Bedford is a new media company, we are deeply inspired by Life’s iconic legacy and ability to connect diverse audiences with universal narratives of humanity.”

Kushner, who will take on the role of publisher of Life Magazine, commented: “Life’s legacy lies in its ability to blend culture, current events, and everyday life — highlighting the triumphs, challenges, and unique perspectives that define us.”

Bedford Media defines itself as a “media holding company focused on artisanal storytelling, authenticity, and shared cultural resonance.”

In July of 2023, Kloss and Kushner welcomed their second child together.

Kloss has frequently spoken about her discomfort with her in-laws right-wing politics.
