Jazz Jennings Successfully Underwent Gender Confirmation Surgery, Says She’s ‘Doing Great’
TLC star of I Am Jazz, 17-year-old Jazz Jennings, successfully underwent gender confirmation surgery on June 26. She reports that she’s “doing great” in an Instagram post, a selfie in a hospital gown while recovering in bed.
In anticipation of her surgery, Jennings posted a video on YouTube titled “Preparing For Gender Confirmation Surgery.”
She shared her excitement for the long-awaited moment.
“It’s coming up so soon. June 26 is when I’m getting the surgery, so like a month away. That is insane. I am so looking forward to it. I’ve been ready for this my entire life,” Jennings said.
Jennings also likes to stay open with her fans in order to educate everyone on the process, something she considers “super important.”
“If I put out this information for people to see, they won’t need to ask anymore questions. And also, it’s educational within the community as well. A lot of parents who have transgender kids are like, ‘What do I do? I don’t know much about this process.’ And seeing our show kind of helps them figure out what steps they could take to help their kids and what the journey might look like in the future,” she said.
She revealed she’s been “ready for this for so long.”

“It’s crazy to me. I’m going to have new genitalia. Like penis to vagina. That’s some serious s––t, y’all,” LGBTQ rights activist Jennings said. “I can’t believe it, I’m going to have a vagina!”
According to Jennings, the only thing she will miss is “peeing standing up.”
“The one sad thing is — peeing stand up is so cool,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve appreciated it enough to be able to pee standing up … Honestly, when you wake up in the morning and you’re lazy as hell and you’re tired, it’s the most convenient thing to do.”
