Hugh Grant Accused Of Being ‘Rude’ In Awkward Pre-Show Oscars Interview With Ashley Graham
Hugh Grant did not seem pleased with model and presenter Ashley Graham‘s questions during their pre-show interview.
The chat was part of ABC’s Countdown to the Oscars. It started poorly when Graham asked the 62-year-old actor his favorite part about attending the Oscars. After an awkward silence, he replied, “It’s fascinating… the whole of humanity is here. It’s vanity fair.”
Graham misunderstood Grant’s dig at the Oscars being a “vanity fair,” or an event that is overly frivolous; instead, believing he was referring to the Vanity Fair party after the ceremony.
Graham then went on to the next question, asking Grant if he was excited to see anyone win. Again, he offered a short response: “No one in particular.”
The actor’s blunt replies continued on when talking about his own suit and his appearance in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.
The interview divided audiences. Some defended Grant, saying that the actor was being himself and had to respond to boring questions. Others said slammed Grant, calling it the “worst Oscars interview ever.” The Twitter user below was amused by the conversation and wished for the chaos to continue.
At the Vanity Fair after-party, Graham said she felt “supported” after her chat with Grant began trending on Twitter.
Grant’s dry wit worked more on the stage when he presented Best Production Design with his Four Weddings and a Funeral castmate Andie MacDowell. He said MacDowell was “still stunning” due to using a good moisturizer while he looked like “a scrotum.”
