Halo 5: Guardians Makes $400 Million In One Week, Breaks Previous Halo Launch Record
Halo 5: Guardians, which was released last week for the Xbox One console, has already brought in more that $400 million.
Halo 5 Sales Top $400 Million
The $400 million launch has broken the previous record held by a Halo game, and brings the total amount generated by the franchise to an impressive $5 billion. Microsoft has said that Halo 5 is “the fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive game to-date.”
In addition to the high revenue, Halo 5 is also boasting high gameplay hours. Thus far, there have been more that 21 million hours of gameplay – of which 12 million were in campaign mode – on the latest installment .
It’s been three years since the last Halo game release, making Halo 5: Guardians one of the most highly anticipated games of 2015. The Microsoft game, which stars protagonist Master Chief, has had loyal fans since it made its debut back in 2001. The new installment, which reportedly cost roughly $100 million to develop, is the first of 13 titles that will exclusively play on Microsoft’s Xbox One.
Following its release last week, Halo 5 has been welcomed with positive reviews from gaming critics. “Halo 5 feels like it knows its obligations,” wrote Arthurs Gies for Polygon. “The campaign’s narrative is likely to prove controversial, though its biggest sin may be its familiarity. Otherwise, Halo 5 excels under the pressure, providing one of the most welcoming, competitive, balanced and fun games of the year — and providing my personal favorite Halo multiplayer since the series began.”
