Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy made waves again on Sunday in response to CNN commentator Van Jones‘ recent criticism of him.

Jones had referred to Ramaswamy as a “demagogue” in a previous on-air discussion and expressed concern about what he perceived as the rise of an American demagogue.

When Ramaswamy, 38, appeared at Turning Point USA’s Americafest in Arizona, he didn’t hold back in his reply to Jones.

He directly addressed Jones’ characterization, “And then you get the mainstream media, you got this character Van Jones on CNN afterward saying, ‘This is the rise of an American demagogue who’s gonna live 50 years longer than Trump. This is dangerous, I am shaking,’ that’s what he says.”

Ramaswamy said, “Just shut the f—- up. At a certain point, just shut the f— up.”

The crowd responded with cheers and laughs of support.

Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur, has emerged as a controversial figure in the 2024 election cycle due to his bold debate performances and digitally focused campaign. With a tendency to attack the political establishment and ridicule media outlets, Ramaswamy presents himself as a successor to former President Donald Trump‘s “Make America Great Again” movement.

However, his recent actions have raised concerns as he delves into fringe beliefs.

In the fourth GOP primary debate, Ramaswamy made a provocative statement when he suggested that the January 6, 2021, attacks on the U.S. Capitol were an “inside job” without providing any evidence to support his claims.

Ramaswamy faces tough competition from figures such as Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Haley, for her part, called Ramaswamy “scum” after he name-checked her daughter during a recent debate.

Last week, he was heard using the bathroom while on a live stream with Elon Musk and Alex Jones.

The Republican nominee will eventually challenge President Joe Biden in the upcoming election.
