‘Good Morning America’ Announces New Third Hour Hosted By Michael Strahan & Sara Haines
ABC has confirmed that a new third hour of the Good Morning America show is set to be hosted by Michael Strahan and Sara Haines, according to Deadline.
GMA currently airs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and the third hour will take the 1 p.m. timeslot, which is currently taken by The Chew. The new schedule will be: Good Morning America, then LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, Rachael, The View, local news, and then another hour of Good Morning America.
The 1 p.m. hour of the show will be called GMA Day since it will no longer be the morning.
The Chew was originally canceled back in May due to sexual harassment allegations against Mario Batali, one of the hosts of the cooking talk show. Deadline first reported that the timeslot would be replaced with more GMA, in part because its cheaper to produce than The Chew.
Now, Haines will be leaving her co-host position at The View after two years to join Strahan on GMA Day. This comes just a week after Paula Faris announced that she would also be leaving The View to focus on reporting for ABC News.
According to TvNewser, GMA still tops Today in viewers. Nonetheless, Today has been number one among adults ages 25 to 54 for 133 weeks, its best streak in six years.
