George Coe, ‘Saturday Night Live’ Alum, Dies At 86

George Coe, a member of the original cast of Saturday Night Live, died on Saturday. He was 86.

Coe died in Santa Monica, Calif., after suffering from an unnamed illness, Variety reported.

Back in 1975, Coe was among the group of comics who were featured on the first season of Lorne Michaels‘ Saturday Night Live. In the years that followed, the original cast member returned to cameo on the poplar sketch show that launched a number of notable careers.

The same year that SNL premiered, Coe had a role in the original Stepford Wives feature film. He returned to the big screen in Kramer vs. Kramer, The Amateur, Blind Date, Cousins, The Mighty Ducks and Funny People.

Coe also had an extensive number of TV credits to his name. Over the years, he had roles on Goodnight Beantown, Remington Steele, Family Ties, Dallas, The Golden Girls, Columbo, Matlock, Murphy Brown, L.A. Law, Home Improvement, The Practice, Working, Smallville, The West Wing, Gilmore Girls and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Most recently, he had voiced the character Woodhouse on Archer.

Coe served more than a dozen years on the SAG national board of directors. For two of those years, he served as the board’s vice president.
