Elton John became the 19th EGOT after his Emmy win on Monday night.

EGOT refers to winners of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards, and now John is one of the lucky 19 winners of the top four U.S. entertainment awards.

John won in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category for his Disney+ special, Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium. Though he did not attend Monday night’s ceremony, producer Ben Winston accepted the award on John’s behalf.

“We knew this show would be historic because it was going to be Elton’s last ever show in North America on tour,” Winston said. “We knew it would be historic because it was Disney’s first-ever live global stream. We didn’t know it was going to be historic because it was going to win a man, who has created the soundtrack to all of our lives — he’s done so much great for society, who is all of our heroes — we didn’t know that it was going to win him an EGOT.”

John’s partner, David Furnish, shared that the singer “screamed” when his name was announced.

John performed the last set of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour in Stockholm, Sweden, in July. The tour began in September 2018 and was postponed for almost two years due to Covid-19 and a hip injury that the singer sustained in 2021.

John was in the news last summer when he testified in Kevin Spacey‘s sexual abuse trial in London.
