Last week, Christina Applegate was brought to tears when she was met with a standing ovation during the 2023 Emmy Awards.

Applegate, who revealed a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, walked on stage using a cane and was escorted to the podium by Anthony Anderson, the host of that night’s ceremony.

The actress thanked the audience for their continued support.

“Thank you so much! Oh my God! You’re totally shaming me [and my] disability by standing up,” she joked, prompting laughter from the attendees.

“But very few of you probably know me from that debut — I’m going to cry more than I’ve been crying — Baby Burt Grizzell “Days of Our Lives,” she said, referring to her first-ever screen credit in 1972.

“It was really a breakout role,” Applegate said, noting that it has “been an honor to play funny, flawed complex characters.”

Applegate was nominated that night in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category, which Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson won.

Applegate went on to share a few notable roles throughout her career, including playing Kelly Bundy in Married… With Children and Jen Harding in Dead To Me.

On Monday, Applegate’s ex-husband, actor Johnathon Schaech, praised her resilience.

“She danced opening night on Broadway on a broken foot!” Schaech wrote on X. “Beat cancer! She’s the toughest human being I’ve ever met! F— MS! So proud of her! Go Christina!”
