Comedian Dana Carvey’s elder son, Dex, 32, was found dead on Wednesday.

In a joint statement to Instagram, Carvey, 68, and his wife, Paula Zwagerman, announced, “Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son, Dex, died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old.”

The statement continued, “Dex packed a lot into those 32 years. He was extremely talented at so many things — music, art, filmmaking, comedy — and pursued all of them passionately.”

“Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure. Will will miss him forever.”

His parents said, “It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family; his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

Dana, 68, and Paula, 62, concluded, “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”

Dex’s death was reported on Thursday after first responders were rushed to his house when they received a call from his girlfriend at 10 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

Dex died locked in his bathroom; authorities found him unresponsive. Paramedics reportedly tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.

Dex followed in the footsteps of his comedian father, star of the hit 1992 movie Wayne’s World, and opened for his dad in Netflix’s 2016 special Straight White Male.

Dana made another post on Instagram where a photo showed him and Dex at work together. He captioned the picture, “Dex and me working together. What a joy.”

Carvey and Zwagerman have been married since 1983. The two also share their son Thomas, 30.

Carvey was seen at the 2019 Oscars with Mike Meyers reliving their Wayne’s World characters.
