It’s back to Italy for The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons author Dan Brown. His next book, starring protagonist Robert Langdon and titled Inferno, is set to be released this spring.

Inferno will center on Dante’s Inferno, the most often referenced third of his epic poem, The Divine Comedy. Brown found his inspiration for his latest endeavor while in Florence as he realized the lasting influence Dante’s work had provided. “With this new novel, I am excited to take readers on a journey deep into this mysterious realm … a landscape of codes, symbols, and more than a few secret passageways,” said Brown in a statement.

“Dan Brown is a masterful storyteller,” added Doubleday Publishing’s Sonny Mehta. “His ability to fuse codes with well-researched history has helped to make his novels some of the most popular works of all time. With Inferno, Dan has taken a literary classic and animated it in a way that only he can.”

Brown’s The Da Vinci Code is not only the best-selling hardcover of all time, it is also one of the top ten most-read books in the world – behind The Bible, Harry Potter and Gone with the Wind. Brown has not released a novel since 2009’s The Lost Symbol, which followed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon on a journey through Washington, D.C, and its Freemason history.

Back in 2006, an author by the name of Matthew Pearl wrote his novel structured by Dante’s Inferno entitled The Dante Club, in which a series of murders in 19th century Boston revealed themselves to be inspired by the legendary work.
