While Star Trek actor Chris Pine is not knocking down doors to join the cast of the film version of E L James' popular erotic novel 50 Shades of Grey, he recently said that he would be on board if he liked the screenwriter's adaptation. "If it's a good script, I'd take a look at it," Pine told Celebuzz, "but I don't know anything other than that."

Pine was busy clarifying comments he made to a red carpet reporter about possibly playing sadomasochistic billionaire Christian Grey in the film. "I do know about 50 Shades of Grey because Alice Eve, who's in [the Star Trek sequel], has been reading it like crazy, so yeah, I've heard about it," Pine told Access Hollywood in April. "It'd be a hell of a choice for me, I think. It sounds like an interesting film."

Speculation about which actors will inhabit the steamy roles in the 50 Shades of Grey film has been mounting, with names such as Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard being bandied around. Pine confessed that the mania surrounding the books caused his comments to create an oversized splash. "The only reason this came out is because I was asked on the red carpet in Las Vegas if I had read it, or if I was interested in it," he explained. "On red carpets as people throw questions at you, you try and answer as quickly as possible. But I don't know anything about it other than I know many women that are reading the novels, and enjoy them very much."
