Saget, 65, was in the midst of a stand-up comedy tour that was meant to run until May, and he tweeted late Saturday night that he was “happily addicted again” to performing live comedy.

Despite his status as a legendary raunchy standup, Saget was also a successful actor and presenter for family-friendly shows through the late ’80s and ’90s. He was perhaps best known for his role as widowed father Danny Tanner in Full House and as the founding host on the clip show America’s Funniest Home Videos.

After the height of his popularity and biggest starring roles, Saget continued performing stand-up and still netted regular acting work on shows like Entourage and How I Met Your Mother.

Saget was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 17, 1956, to Benjamin and Rosalyn Saget. He grew up between Los Angeles and Philadelphia and attended film school at Temple University. His student film, a documentary called Through Adam’s Eyes, won a Student Academy Award.

A medical emergency at an early age shocked Saget out of being “a cocky, overweight twenty-two-year-old” and caused him to begin taking his life and aspirations more seriously, according to a 1990 interview.

Saget, who was well-liked among Hollywood circles and honored as a comedian’s comedian, received an outpouring of social media tributes following the news of his death. The most emotional one was from his Full House co-star, John Stamos.

Saget is survived by his wife Kelly Rizzo and three children.
