‘Big Brother’ Recap: Candice Stewart & Judd Maguire Sent Home; Aaryn Gries Back As Head Of Household

Big Brother returned with a double-elimination in the cards with Candice Stewart, Spencer Clawson and Amanda Zuckerman on the block – all of whom have hatched plans to get their respective challengers sent home.

Candice, knowing she’s probably the most hotly targeted contestant, tries to persuade the others that she’s not much of a threat to them. She’s managed (or so she thinks) to win over Elissa Slater and Jessie Kowalski. Jessie was previously approached by Amanda, who tried in vain to apologize for her past actions. Jessie doesn’t buy it for a second. Spencer, meanwhile, is hoping against hope that he’s successfully masterminded enough alliances to see him through for another week.

Jessie is so sick of Amanda that she even tries to push Big Brother’s best game player, Helen Kim, to do her bidding. Helen’s not sure yet exactly what the best move for her in the long run will be. After Helen, Jessie moves on to Judd Maguire. Judd’s technically in with McCrae Olson, Andy Heron and Amanda, but seems persuadable enough. Andy, when approached by Helen to vote for Amanda, shuts her down, saying that he trusts Amanda and McCrae.

Before the final vote is in, Candice, Spencer and Amanda all make their pleas. Candice gets into a screaming match with GinaMarie Zimmerman, who Candice shames for living with her parents at 33. Spencer, who’s apparently clueless that his racist/child pornography jokes could mean he’s out of a job, thanks his railroad company. Amanda just recycled her plea from the last time she was on the block. Candice need not have wasted her breath, as everyone voted to boot her from the house.

The week’s Head of Household competition, dubbed “Summer School,” is basically just a little quiz about things that have unfolded in the Big Brother house over the weeks. Instead of a being “true/false,” it’s a “more/less” test. Elissa is the first to get a question wrong, followed by Andy and Jessie. The last one standing is none other but resident race-baiter Aaryn Gries. When it’s time to put two people on the block, she selects Jessie and Spencer.

Andy, Judd and Amanda are selected to compete in the Power of Veto game called “Nailed It.” The object is to collect six nails that fit correctly into a puzzle. Aaryn is the victor of this competition as well. During the power of veto ceremony, she decides to take Jessie off the block and replace her with Judd. Another unanimous vote by the housemates sends small-town boy Judd home.

Big Brother returns to CBS Sunday at 8/7c.
