An Arizona mother has been arrested for murdering her daughter and leaving her body in a plastic bag in a dumpster on Christmas Eve. She is now being held on a $1 million bond.

Sophia Simmons, a 38-year-old mother, has been arrested after her young daughter’s body was found in a plastic bag in a trash can.

The child’s remains reportedly had multiple injuries on her legs, arms and torso.

Simmons was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.

Simmons became the prime suspect once police received a call from a tipster in New York, who said they heard a call from Simmons who “told the person that she had beaten her child and it went too far.”

She said after the beating, Simmons left home and found her daughter unresponsive once she came back.

According to reports, she disposed of her daughter’s body five days later in a dumpster.

When officers arrived at her townhouse, police discovered that the home “appeared to have been emptied of its contents, the couches were in the patio and the cushions were missing.”

Simmons’ court appearance for her case is scheduled for January 2.
