After Swearing She Wouldn’t Use Ozempic, Reality Star Mama June Shannon Reveals 30-Pound Weight Loss With Help Of ‘Medication’
Reality TV star Mama June Shannon says she has lost 30 pounds in nine weeks by using unspecified weight loss drugs, diet and exercise.
The 44-year-old star of Mama June: Family Crisis revealed her recent weight loss, saying she still needs to lose around 74 pounds to reach her goal.
“Even though I’m losing weight, I’m only about three to four pounds a week,” Shannon told ET. “It isn’t as fast as a gastric sleeve or a gastric bypass, but it is doing it, like, more safer.”
Shannon underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2015, losing over 200 pounds before regaining some weight. She says the drugs allow for slower, safer weight loss compared to surgery.
In addition to the medication, Shannon says she has adopted a workout routine of three to four days per week and made dietary changes. She hopes to keep off the pounds this time.
However, her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird expressed concern about her mom’s strict regimen, saying Shannon has gone “a little overboard with it.”
Last year, Shannon said she didn’t plan to try the popular diabetes drug Ozempic for weight loss because of potential side effects. She said at the time, she was “happy” with her body at 250 pounds.
The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo star shared in March that writing private journal entries and then destroying them has helped her mental health, allowing her to confront issues without dwelling on them.
In 2022, Shannon spoke exclusively with uInterview about her toxic relationship with her ex, Geno.
“A lot of praying to God, a lot of telling him, ‘Please let me out of this situation, please don’t let him kill me,'” she said. “He knows what the situation was. I just want people to know you can have a voice; you can leave this situation that’s toxic. When you’re in a narcissistic, controlling situation, it consumes you.”
