Actor Josh Brolin Says He Uses Nicotine Pouches ’24-Hours A Day’ – Even While Sleeping
Josh Brolin recently revealed his addiction to nicotine pouches, which is so severe he even uses them while unconscious.
In a Thursday interview with Marc Maron on his podcast WTF, Brolin shared, “I have a pouch in my lip, and I’m not f— lying, 24 hours a day.”
He revealed his obsession has become so compulsive that he even uses them when he is asleep: “I started taking them out and putting them on the bedside table…my wife would hear this in the middle of the night,” he said, popping a pouch in his mouth next to the microphone. “I don’t even know I’m doing it, I’m asleep.”
Brolin said that he had initially been hooked on nicotine lozenges before health concerns got in the way: “They go in two seconds, but they taste like gasoline, and they got a punch to them,” he said. “But I used to keep them up between my gum and my tooth line. I got seven cavities.”
The actor shared that his habit also impacted his children, as when his daughter was a toddler, she would occasionally find the empty pouches on the floor. “My kid would pick it up at two years old, which is really — maybe there’s not any nicotine, maybe there’s not any danger, but if she puts it in her mouth, she’s gonna get sick.”
Brolin confessed that should have been a motive for him to kick the habit, but, “Instead of stopping, I try and teach them, ‘Don’t do that. Stay away from daddy’s s—. Daddy needs that.'”
Brolin revealed another time his habit had gotten him in trouble when he was shooting a movie in the Middle East. “I start running out [of pouches], and…[a merchant] comes up to me, and he says, ‘I have some,’ and it has a skull and crossbones on the top, and it’s 40-milligram packets,“ he recalled.
Although he had initially refused the offer, cautious as his usual pouches were only six milligrams, Brolin eventually grew desperate and contacted the merchant.
He remembered the harrowing experience: “I stick the thing in my mouth for no more, and I swear to God on my kids, for no more than 20 seconds – and I had to cancel dinner that night. I literally was s—ing my brains out.”
While nicotine pouches are a commonly used nicotine alternative, they have not been approved by the FDA as a viable way to help individuals curb their smoking habits. The popularity of nicotine pouches has increased drastically in the last year.
