Best known for her role in Fantastic Voyage (1966) and One Million Years B.C. (1966), Raquel Welch died early morning of February 15 at 82 years old.

Welch’s manager, Steve Sauer said that she, “passed away peacefully early this morning after a brief illness.”

Even though she only had three lines of dialogue in the film One Million Years B.C., the promotional posters of Welch in a bikini became best-selling and turned her into an international sex symbol.

Welch continued to act and helped end Hollywood’s obsession with the ‘dumb blonde’ mold of a traditional sex symbol with her portrayal of strong female characters.

In 1974 Welch won a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role in The Three Musketeers.

Despite being known as a sex symbol, Welch never posed naked throughout her career. Even when she was photographed for Playboy in 1979 she remained in her undergarments.

Some of Welch’s more recent credits include Legally Blonde (2001), Forget About It (2006) and How to Be a Latin Lover (2017).

Welch will be remembered by her two children, Damon and Tahnee Welch.
