After Dramatic 100-Lb. Weight Loss, Jessica Simpson Is Bashed By Fans For ‘Cringey’ ‘American Idol’ Performance
Pop star Jessica Simpson debuted a new look on May 18, when she made a special appearance on the season 23 finale of American Idol. She shocked the audience with a freshly dyed mane of dirty blonde hair – and a weak performance.
Simpson performed her popular cover of “These Boots Are Made For Walking” and her hit song “Blame Me” from her EP Nashville Canyon.
However, despite Simpson’s fresh hairstyle, many American Idol viewers were quick to bash the singer’s performance, labeling it “cringe,” with one internet user calling it “the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever seen!” Other viewers joked that her new hairstyle was an attempt to distract the audience from her performance.
Simpson has been making headlines for her dramatic 100-pound weight loss after her divorce from husband Eric Johnson.
Simpson was styled by her close friend, colorist and salon owner Rita Hazan, who advised Simpson to try out a “more natural” look, describing it as “a kid on the beach” and “desert sunset blonde.”
“The must-have in my kit that I use on all my clients is Glaze’s Supergloss,” Hazan told People. “For Jessica, we used the shade Vanilla Lights — her perfect match to tone down brassiness in her highlights…It delivers a rich, shiny payoff, and a silky, polished finish that leaves hair looking refreshed and healthier after just one use.”
“She was so happy to get a new look and switch it up…She always had a super buttery blonde — this time we wanted something new and youthful.
“I think it’s a fresh and young vibe, but with confidence and a slight attitude to represent her mood. We have been in each other’s lives for so many years that there’s personal and professional trust.”
In a recent interview with Trailblazers Radio, Simpson reflected on why she took a step back from the spotlight. “I took a long break,” she said. “I was mad at music a bit. After being dropped with a number one country album, I was dropped, and I just never understood it. They just said I would never recoup if I didn’t give them part of the brand, but my brand was already successful.”
