Kelly Clarkson Files For Divorce From Husband Brandon Blackstock, Asks For No Spousal Support
Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock in Los Angeles on June 4, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple had been together for nearly seven years, and have two children together, a daughter River, 6, and a son Remington, 4.
The 38-year-old singer filed court papers that said that she wants her legal name to be changed back to Clarkson, as it has been Blackstock, and she requested that she not have to pay spousal support to Blackstock. The court documents also reveal that the couple had a prenuptial agreement.
The two had their first date in 2011, after Clarkson met Blackstock, 43, while he was working as Rascal Flatts’ road manager. Blackstock is the former stepson of Reba McEntire.
The pair had a small wedding in in October 2013. It was Clarkson’s first, and Blackstock’s second. He also has two children with his first wife, Melissa Ashworth.
The couple had been socially isolating at their Montana ranch since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Clarkson had been shooting her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show there, and in April, her family recorded a happy birthday message that played on her show.

In the past, Clarkson has been very open about her relationship with Blackstock, especially with her attraction to him.
“When I met Brandon, I wasn’t looking for a friend. I have a lot of great friends! I was looking for a lover,” she told Redbook. “I had never found someone I was truly passionate about, who I wanted to stay in bed with all day. The fact that I did, well…I was going to latch on and take advantage of that.”
