The first photo was published on the royals’ Instagram account. In the photo, it shows baby Archie with his parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, along with other members of the royal family: Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Charles, and Camilla. The Duke and Duchess were criticized for not having any press, or public, to witness any elements from the ceremony and for keeping the identity of the godparent’s a secret. Royal biographer, Penny Junor, has called the couple’s decision to exclude the press and public a mistake.
Royal watchers speculated that the godparents could be Genevieve Hills and Lindsay Roth, two close friends of the Duchess from her university days. They were all spotted together at Wimbledon on Thursday.
There is also speculation that Markle’s best friend, Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney, could be a godparent, while Harry’s old schoolmates, Thomas and Charlie van Straubenzee, may have been chosen as well.
Archie wore a gown that was a handmade replica made by Angela Kelly, dressmaker to the Queen.
The Queen herself did not attend the christening, due to a prior engagement.
