Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has confirmedthat Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now “on hold.” His remarks, made during a screening of Black Panther on Thursday, come after the turbulent few months following Disney’s decision to fire the franchise’s director, James Gunn, after controversial tweets of his resurfaced earlier this year.

Sirius XM reporter Erick Weber first tweeted Feige’s comments, along with new details on a trailer for Avengers 4.

Members of the Guardians cast have requested that Gunn be brought back. However, Disney has remained firm in its choice to part ways with Gunn.  Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, has led the support for Gunn, threatening to break his contract, while the entire cast released an open letter earlier this year in support of the fired director. Before the announcement that the movie was on hold, Disney had moved the release date from 2020 to 2021 and it briefly seemed like they had some sort of plan for sequel work.

Gunn is currently writing the next Suicide Squad movie for Marvel’s chief rival, DC.
