Ben Affleck To Direct And Star In Stand-Alone ‘Batman’ Film
At the Warner Bros. CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Tuesday, chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced plans for a stand-alone Batman movie not only starring, but also directed by Ben Affleck. This comes in the wake of mediocre reviews for last month’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Although the movie didn’t do so well, Affleck was praised for his performance in the iconic role. As the DC Comics franchise seems to be yielding to the overwhelming popularity of the Marvel movies and TV shows, it makes sense for them to try and invest in what is working.
Tsuijhara said the March face-off film “set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020.”
The coming Batman movie has no official title or date, although the studio does have two DC Comics move release dates for films that are not yet named: Oct. 5, 2018 and Nov. 1, 2019. If one goes to the Batman movie, the other is speculated to go to a Suicide Squad 2. Affleck, however, will be seen in the DC world very soon for Suicide Squad and the two coming Justice League films. Among the other DC films set to be release din the next four years are Wonder Woman (Jun. 2 2017) and and The Flash (Mar. 16 2018).
