Coldplay Tapped To Headline 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Coldplay has been confirmed as the headline performer for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show.

It was announced Thursday that British rock group Coldplay – comprised of frontman Chris Martin, Guy Berrman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion – has been chosen to play at the 2016 Super Bowl’s halftime show.

“It’s official: we’re performing at the @Pepsi @SuperBowl 50 Halftime Show!” the band tweeted.

Pepsi, the official sponsor of he Super Bowl halftime show, also confirmed the rumors that Coldplay had gotten the job for this year’s NFL championship game. The soft drink brand also posted a video that gave a behind-the-scenes look at the band’s preparation for the big gig.

Last year, the Super Bowl halftime performance was headlined by pop star Katy Perry. The game –a boon for advertisers as well as its featured performers – set a U.S. TV record last year. The match-up between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks attracted 114.4 million viewers for NBC.

Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Janet Jackson have all headlined past Super Bowls.

Super Bowl 50 will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7.
