Straight Outta Compton Red Band Trailer
Straight Outta Compton’s red band trailer was released online Monday, giving fans a first look at the N.W.A. biopic set for a summer release. Ice Cube and Dr. Dre introduced the trailer with a short, black and white segment of them returning to their old Compton stomping grounds. The minute-long segment, which features cameo appearances from The Game and Kendrick Lamar, ends with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre relating N.W.A.’s frustration with the police to today’s rising tensions between the police force and those they are meant to protect. “The same thing that we was going through in the ‘80s with the police, people going through right now,” Ice Cube says in the intro.

The film focuses on Ice Cube and Dr. Dre as they built N.W.A. and became successful, all while being caught up in political strife in LA and the 1992 LA riots. Both Ice Cube and Dr. Dre acted as producers on the film, starring Corey Hawkins (Non-Stop) as Dr. Dre and Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson, Jr., as his father. The film also stars Jason Mitchell as Eazy-E and Paul Giamatti as N.W.A. manager Jerry Heller.
F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) directed the film, which is set for release on Aug. 14, 2015.
