Anne Hathaway revealed her new blond hair color at the Met Gala on Monday night, as her once long locks continue to grow out from her emotional head-shaving scene in the Oscar-nominated Les Miserables.

While talking to model Hilary Rhoda on the red carpet, Hathaway said, talking about the hairstyle, "I don't know if you can tell by looking at me, but Debbie Harry was kind of an inspiration," according to People. The punky gelled style was the work of celebrity hairstylist Sascha Breur. “Drawing inspiration from unforgettable punk icons like Poly Styrene from X-ray Spex and Joan Jett, I decided to go for a look that was glam, edgy and yet very youthful and fun," Breur told HollywoodLife.com.

"We kept the style much shorter for Anne and had a lot of fun playing around with it," he added. "To enhance her punk look further we decided to take her hair to the next level — a new cool platinum blonde color and the sharp slightly boyish finish with loads of texture were the perfect match."

Hathaway had arrived at the formal New York event with Valentino, the fashion designer who had incidentally designed her dress for the evening. The barely-there black number was from Valentino's 1992 archives. The actress's relationship with the designer was questioned after the Oscars, when at the last minute she opted to wear a Prada dress instead of the Valentino she was set to wear. However, the two appear to have made up.

“Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself,” Hathaway told People back in February.
