Shellie Zimmerman, the wife of George Zimmerman, has filed for divorce a little less than two months following the 29-year-old neighborhood watchman's acquittal in the shooting death of the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

George Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Zimmerman Jr. confirmed the divorce news to MyFoxOrlando after ABC News reported on the filing on Thursday.

Roughly a week ago, Shellie Zimmerman, offered vague responses when questioned about her marriage during an interview with Good Morning America. After revealing that she’d like to have an enduring marriage and have children, she couldn’t conclusively say whether it was her current husband she saw those things with.

The aftermath of Zimmerman’s shooting of Martin left the couple’s marriage strained for numerous reasons – including Shellie Zimmerman’s feeling that she never really knew the man she was married to. "I think I'm realizing that I have been married to a person for almost seven years, and I don't think that I ever really knew him at all," Shellie Zimmerman told ABC News. "I have a selfish husband. And I think George is all about George."

After six years of marriage and what Shellie’s attorney Kelly Sims calls “much soul searching and recent disappointments,” the wife of the acquitted gunman believes it’s time for a divorce.
