Nick Carter, 38, will not face charges after being accused of rape by Melissa Schuman, 33.

In February 2018, Schuman came forward about an alleged rape assault by The Backstreet Boys singer that took place in 2003 when she was 18 years old. A police report in Los Angeles was filed by Schuman which explained the incident.

Schuman also went into detail about the alleged incident on her blog, where she accused Carter of unbuttoning her pants after telling him that she didn’t want to go any further.

In response to the backlash, Carter had dismissed the rape allegations and maintained that Schuman gave him consent.

In August, Schuman told the Daily Beast about the alleged sexual assault. “The music industry has enabled abusers forever,” Schuman said. “Unless people start to stop supporting these people, it’s never going to change.”

After over a year of investigation, the prosecutors in Los Angeles have determined that the rape charges against Carter will not be pursued due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, according to TMZ.

Before the verdict was released, Carter, who was expecting a second child with his wife Lauren Kitt revealed that they were dealing with the loss of the pregnancy.

Dealing with the news while on a solo tour in South America and Mexico, Carter considered canceling his show in Lima, Peru.
