On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton visited Meghan Markle at Frogmore Cottage and met The Duchess of Sussex for the first time. The meeting was a secret and also included six-month-old Archie.

Clinton and Markle shared a hug before spending time together. The two apparently really hit it off, discussing a letter Markle sent Clinton when she was just 11 years old, asking for Clinton’s help to remove a “sexist” advertisement for dish soap. “Meghan mentioned that Archie was crawling and Hillary said that it was early for six months. It was a private and sweet moment. They were equally excited to meet each other,” a source told People.

Their afternoon together followed Clinton’s interview with BBC Radio 5 Live by only a few days, where she spoke about Markle’s treatment from British tabloids. “Oh my God, I want to hug her!” Clinton said during the interview. “I feel as a mother I just want to put my arms around her. I want to tell her to hang in there, don’t let those bad guys get you down. Keep going, do what you think is right.”

“It takes some getting used to having your every move scrutinized and analyzed and, frankly, things made up about,” Clinton said. “I really wish her and her husband the very best because they are struggling to have a life of meaning and integrity in their own terms, and that’s hard enough if you’re just walking around in today’s world, but if you’re on that big a platform it’s really difficult.”
