Maryam Basir is an American actress and model. She is best known for her roles in Lace (2021), A Boy. A Girl. A Dream. (2018) and To Live and Die and Live (2023).

Maryam Basir was born on February 12 in Detroit, Michigan, and was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Information regarding Basir’s family has not been made publicly known. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, she moved to New York City.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Basir revealed how she got started with acting. “I was in New York, just at a bank, and this security guard at the bank was like ‘Are you an actor? Or a model?’” Basir laughed. “And I was like, ‘No.’ And he was like, ‘Well you should be!’ So from that, it kind of put the bug in my ear and I went to an agency and that’s how it all started.”

Basir started her acting career with various appearances in shows like Are We There Yet?, Empire, Chicago P.D., Detroiters, The Chi and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Her first role in a movie was Mary in A Boy. A Girl. A Dream. (2018).

Basir’s acting career took off when she starred as Lacey McCullough in the show Lace (2021). Lacey McCullough is a lawyer for the rich in Los Angeles where she makes her clients’ problems go away, yet can’t do the same for her own.

In the exclusive interview, Basir talked about Lace. “I actually just wrapped about two weeks ago on the second season of my show, Lace, an AMC Network show where I play Lace as the lead,” she said. The new season is set to come out summer of 2023.

To Live and Die and Live is about Muhammad (Amin Joseph) while he deals with the death of his stepfather and his growing drug addiction. In the film, Basir plays Muhammad’s younger sister and talked to uInterview about her.

“She is the sister of Mohammad, which is Amin [Joseph] who plays that role beautifully and I play his supportive sister who’s always there to pick up the slack to try and get him on the right track,” Basir said. “It was a very emotional role. There was a lot of crying on set.”

Basir also revealed that trying plantains was the most memorable thing from the shoot. “I tried them before but I never liked them, but Amin said, ‘taste this you know just try this one try it again.’ And I tried it and it was life-changing,” Basir laughed. “I’m like this is actually really good!”
