The Acer Predator XB272 monitor is the latest gaming-themed product from the venerable manufacturer. With a catalog that already consists of many gaming-caliber products, such as the Acer Predator XB272, what does the Predator XB272 do to stand out from its siblings and competitors?

ACER PREDATOR XB272 REVIEW

The 27-inch monitor is a dependable choice, even if it isn’t the strongest option. (If pure power is what you require, then you might want to check out the Asus ROG Zephyrs laptop.)

The XB272 also has a refresh rate of 240Hz — which, as one would guess, is a valuable asset to gaming. And, even better, few competing models can match that. The G-Sync helps smooth out the gameplay even more so. The screen’s resolution spans 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The sound is realized, albeit somewhat disappointingly, by the XB272’s two 2W speakers. Similarly, the monitor is let down by its two antiquated display ports: one HDMI and one DisplayPort. While these aren’t deal breakers, it’s disappointing for the XB272 to use older technology. On the plus side, however, the four Type-A USB 3.0 ports are appreciated.

Options to configure your display are housed on the back of the machine. You can use the joystick and buttons, and two buttons can be mapped to pertain a menu option. The display itself can be configured to best suit your needs by tweaking aspects such as brightness and contrast. The three prepared settings tailored to gaming are ready from the get-go.

For $679.99, the Acer Predator XB272 can enrich your gaming setup. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel and it’s held back with some outdated components, but it portrays a smoothness thanks to its impressive refresh rate. Overall, it’s a commendable option.
