‘Yellowstone’ Fans Slam The Series Finale, Calling The Ending Worse Than ‘Game Of Thrones’

Yellowstone’s fanbase was left divided after the Season 5 finale was released on Sunday.

After the supposed series finale was aired, many had mixed reactions for the way creator Taylor Sheridan chose to end the Dutton’s family story.

Warning: spoilers ahead!

In the finale, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), saved the ranch by giving it away to its owners, the Broken Rock Indians. Additionally, Beth (Kelly Reilly) kept her promise and killed her brother Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).

Yellowstone Finale Reactions

Beth and Rip (Cole Hauser) also bought a new ranch. While the main storylines were drawn to a close, many viewers were critical over the way the show wrapped up.

“This #yellowstone finale is lazy writing,” a fan wrote on X.

“It is official. Game of Thrones is no longer the worst final season of any tv show ever. Yellowstone has taken that award. What a disaster of a final season,” another said.

Although numerous fans displayed their disapproval, there were others who enjoyed the ending.

“Farewell to one of the best series I have ever seen. Loved all of it and to think in the start I thought it was boring…” one viewer posted.

“When they say the perfect finale doesn’t exist – then you watch Yellowstone – well done!” another fan added.

Sheridan decided to end the popular series after series star Kevin Costner refused to return so he could film his Western epic, Horizon.

In 2022, Bentley spoke exclusively to uInterview about his infamous fight scenes with Reilly. “It’s, like I said, really tough and draining, but it’s great when we first started in the barn scene in season 1, when she was punching me, she was so worried about hitting me. She was too far away from me, but she got the hang of it after that,” Bentley said.

Last week, Paramount gave a thumbs-up for a new spin-off featuring Beth and Rip, which will seemingly follow their lives on the new ranch they bought.

Season 2 of the prequel series, 1923, will debut February 23.
