This week’s episode of Wayward Pines opened with a flashback to the first time that Rebecca and Pilcher met. Pilcher went to Rebecca in hopes that her architecture firm could help create the new “project” that he had in mind. That project being Wayward Pines. He vaguely described his plans in a Noah’ Ark scenario, but instead of Rebecca laughing him off immediately, she didn’t.

‘Wayward Pines’ Season 2, Episode 5 Recap

Back in the present, Frank has seen the Abbie in the carousel and Jason and his team are monitoring the entire interaction. The Abbie isn’t attacking Frank and it’s also a female which has never been seen before.

In the flashback Yedlin is questioning why Rebecca trusts Pilcher so much. He doesn’t trust that there’s any such thing as a perfect town or community.

Megan leads the inspection of the female Abbie after she is captured and more or less jailed. This is in attempt to figure out the easiest way to kill her.

Meanwhile, Jason is questioning Kerry his subordinates about how an Abbie would be able to enter Wayward Pines in the first place.

CJ, Adam and Theresa are still outside of the walls. Theresa informs CJ that she won’t be going back. It is determined that her son Ben was the dead body that was found and she doesn’t want to leave him again regardless that he’s no longer alive.

We see Pilcher showing Rebecca where they will build their “tomorrow” in another flashback. Rebecca notes that their is a town already there and Pilcher responds “not for long.” This is also the first time Rebecca meets Megan.

Jason goes to Rebecca’s salon to ask about the walls of Wayward Pines and if she’s absolutely sure they are impenetrable. Xander watches the exchange from across the street.

Frank has volunteered to be paired. This turns out to take place in an extremely awkward and sterile “procreation room” where he is sent to have sex with a girl his age. Inside the room is a gameboard-looking timeline that explains how the process works. Frank isn’t able to go through with it but blames it on him not being attracted to the girl, causing her to get upset.

Kerry visits Yedlin and he asks her about who is performing the tests on the new female Abbie. He asks to be put in charge of the research.

Yedlin arrives as Megan is preparing a spinal-fluid extraction procedure. Yedlin does not approve but Megan continues.

In the flashback, Pilcher and Megan finally explain his real plan to Rebecca. The plan being to freeze a chosen group of people for 2,000 years until the world-ending catastrophe is over. Rebecca reacts politely but explained to Yedlin at the time that she is not interested at all and regrets even beginning the process.

Theresa talks to Adam about her plan to stay outside the walls. Adam admits that she and Ben were never supposed to leave in the first place but he wanted Ethan gone so bad and he wasn’t able to protect them along the way.

Frank talks to Yedlin about his problems in the procreation room. Yedlin suggests that Frank may be gay, something that is not accepted in the pines, so Frank vehemently denies it and worries for his life at the mention of it.

When Yedlin gets home (still present day) he finds Xander in the kitchen with Rebecca. Xander and Rebecca admit that they are married. Xander tries to explain that they were simply matched together and Rebecca tries to explain that she never knew whether Yedlin would even be awoken or not. Yedlin is not trying to hear any of this. He takes off his ring, punches Xander, and leaves.

Frank finds Lucy on the roof of the orphanage to talk. Lucy tells him she dreams of a life of freedom. He apologizes for talking to Megan about her and for not being able to protect her how he would like to. Lucy tells him she’ll protect him too.

After the testing, Megan talks to the Abbie. After a surprisingly candid and completely one-sided conversation, she asks “why am I talking to you?”

Surprisingly, Theresa is not angry at Adam. Instead, she tells him stories about Ben. Adam tells Theresa that he thinks she wants to stay outside of the walls because she wants to die. He also asks her to forgive him which is something she says she’ll never be able to do.

In yet another flashback, we see the first meeting of Rebecca and Xander. It’s right after the big storm and she is seeing what she created in real life.

In the final scene of the episode we see that the female Abbie has been able to mentally contact the others and they are making their way back towards Wayward Pines to rescue her. This is bound to end badly.
