AMC has released the official key art for the eighth season of The Walking Dead, which premieres Oct. 22 at 9 p.m.
The tagline for this season is “All Out War,” and the synopsis explains why. “This year, Rick brings ‘All Out War’ to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his forces,” says the official AMC synopsis. “The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless – but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.”
Spoilers were released during the show’s hiatus that showed a fiery explosion on set. Fans believe the fictional town of Alexandria will go up in flames this season, and that would certainly fit with the action-packed war theme AMC is bringing to light with the released image and tagline.
The end of season seven saw the residents of the Hilltop, Kingdom, and Alexandria all ban together to take on Negan and his Saviors. In the season finale earlier this year, no major characters died, and we can be sure that there will be plenty of bloodshed to come. As the synopsis says, “Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom – Negan and the Saviors’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end.”
