VIDEO: Probation Report Calls 'Sons Of Anarchy' Actor Johnny Lewis 'A Threat'
The sudden dearth of Sons of Anarchy star Johnny Lewis at the age of 28 and his landlady, Christine Davis, at 81, may have rocked headlines, but that doesn't mean that people were close to Lewis were surprised about the bizarre circumstances surrounding the death of Lewis, just days after Sons of Anarchy character Opie, played by Ryan Hurst, was killed off the show.
Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter already spoke out about the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the death of Lewis and Davis, calling Lewis an "extremely talented guy who unfortunately had lost his way," and now an official probation report has surfaced from May that says Lewis "suffers from some form of chemical dependency, mental health issue and a lack of permanent housing. Given this, [Lewis] will continue to be a threat to any community he may reside," reports CNN.
Lewis had been in minor scrapes with the law prior to his death, having been arrested twice in February in Santa Monica on charges of burglary and battery. "What was known in May about Johnny was that he had two fairly minor offenses — which were, fortunately, not serious," said his lawyer, Jonathan Mandel, who, nevertheless, never felt threatened by Lewis. "He did have a diagnosis, eventually, of chemically induced psychosis," added Mandel.
While drug use was a factor in Lewis' problems, Mandel did not get the impression that drugs were the main source of his issues. "From April until August or September, he was probably using no drugs at all. He was incarcerated for a couple of months and then he went to a treatment facility," said Mandel. "I never got the sense, when I was representing him, that he was an addict. I did think that he had severe mental problems."
It will likely be a month before toxicology reports from Lewis' autopsy are available. "We don't have any hard evidence that says he was on anything right now," said LAPD Commander Andrew Smith after the sequence of events that led up to Lewis' death, which also reportedly included him attacking two handymen, who were later treated for minor injuries, next door to Davis' house. Davis' cat was also found dead inside.
