Theo Rossi is an American actor. He is best known for his roles in the television shows Sons of Anarchy and Luke Cage.

THEO ROSSI BIOGRAPHY: AGE, EARLY LIFE, FAMILY, EDUCATION

John Theodore Rossi was born on June 4, 1975 (Theo Rossi: age 47) in Staten Island, New York. Rossi was mainly raised by his mother, Mary Jane Tomasino.

Rossi studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City, where he appeared in several productions before moving to California.

When talking in an exclusive interview with uInterview’s founder Erik Meers, Rossi divulged that he originally “had no interest” in acting. “I started later in life, and I stumbled upon a friend who was in an acting school. It just all was unexpected,” Rossi said. “And then I slowly tried to make the unexpected more planned.”

THEO ROSSI BIOGRAPHY: CAREER IN TELEVISION & MOVIES

Rossi told uInterview, “My first jobs were all like MTV karaoke videos. I did some independent film that never ever came out. I was doing these local TV commercials for like electronic stores. I was doing dance catalogues, I’m not a proficient dancer,” Rossi said. “I was doing all this stuff to just try to figure it out, and then, after doing it for a year, I moved to L.A. The first thing that I ever did that anyone ever saw was that I had one line in Malcolm in the Middle. I thought at that point I could’ve retired. I made it, I was on something that was on TV.”

Over his career, Rossi has appeared in television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Hawaii Five-O, Bones, Veronica Mars, CSI: Miami, and Lost.

Rossi also played Hernan “Shades” Alvarez in the Marvel series Luke Cage from 2016 to 2018.

THEO ROSSI BIOGRAPHY: SONS OF ANARCHY

Television fans of course know Rossi best from his role in the hit FX action crime drama Sons of Anarchy. The show follows the fast-paced and dangerous lives of members of a motorcycle gang in California. It examines their relationships with and loyalty to each other as they operate both within and out of the law.

In the series, Rossi portrays Juan Carlos “Juice” Ortiz, a hacker and intelligence officer for the motorcycle gang. Rossi’s character debuts in the pilot of the series, and continues to play a large part through all the show’s seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014.

When talking about his time on Sons of Anarchy exclusively to uInterview, Rossi revealed how his closeness to his fellow Sons of Anarchy cast mates paralleled the tight-knit group they were playing in the television show. “We’re still all so tight, we were like a family in every way.” Rossi said. “It was everything that you’d expect. We used to always be together when we weren’t filming.”

THEO ROSSI BIOGRAPHY: ESCAPE THE FIELD

In 2022, Rossi starred in Escape the Field, a film he describes as “situational horror.” The plot follows the struggle of six people after they mysteriously wake up in the center of an unending cornfield. The characters must fight an outside force as well as stay suspicious of each other in order to survive. Talking to uInterview, Rossi said the experience taught him a lot about filmmaking.

“This was the first film back after a global changing event,” Rossi said. “There were zero dollars, so we were just trying to be creative. You have to make it work regardless. In this film for example, with such little available to you, all being in one location and not having the luxury of unlimited finances, you have to make the acting do the work. You have to make the relationships do the work. I’ll always look back on how even if you have the other stuff, you have to do this. You can’t just lose one because you have the other. This was something that taught me how important rehearsal is, how important it was to shoot in chronological order if you can, how important it is to get time with the people you’re working with if you can.”

Escape the Field was released on May 6, and is now available for purchase online.

THEO ROSSI BIOGRAPHY: PERSONAL LIFE

Along with his fellow stars of Sons of Anarchy, Rossi has been involved with various organizations which aid veterans. The programs raise money to help wounded American soldiers as well as soldiers returning home with PTSD.

Rossi helped to found the program “Staten Strong,” whose purpose was to provide relief to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Staten Strong successfully rebuilt three families’ houses on Staten Island.

Rossi, a self-proclaimed vegan since 1997, also works to promote animal welfare. Rossi began a campaign to protect street dogs with The Humane Society of the United States, as well as appeared in an ad for PETA.
