VIDEO: Emotional 911 Caller Reports Deaths Of Gene Hackman, 95, & Wife Betsy Arakawa, 63
Authorities in New Mexico have released an audio recording of a 911 call received on Wednesday, in which the caller reported finding the bodies of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, inside their home outside Santa Fe. The caller, who identifies himself as a caretaker in the subdivision, tells the dispatcher that he had spotted the motionless bodies of a man and woman through the windows of the locked home. The caretaker, audibly distressed, is heard crying “damn, damn, damn” repeatedly. He tells the dispatcher he could not access the home, and urges them to send police to the house. The dispatcher seeks more exact location information from the caller, and tells him emergency responders are on their way. As units arrive, the caller sobs and breathes heavily, before thanking the dispatcher and ending the phone call. Inside the house, sheriff’s deputies found the bodies of 95-year-old Hackman and 63-year-old Arakawa in separate rooms, and the remains of a dog in a crate inside a bathroom closet, according to local reports citing the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.
