Vicki Gunvalson has broken her silence following her ex-boyfriend Brooks Ayers’ confession about lying in regard to his cancer treatment.

Vicki Gunvalson On Brooks Ayers

Earlier this week, Ayers copped to fabricating medical documents that showed he’d received treatment at the City of Hope cancer hospital. “I’m completely shocked. I’ve seen the bills, I went to City of Hope,” Gunvalson told Extra’s Mario Lopez, adding that she once picked him up from the facility, where he said he’d received his first round of chemotherapy.

“He was there all morning so how do you think anything other than he’s getting chemo?” Gunvalson added. “You go to City of Hope because you have cancer, not because you have nothing else to do during the day.”

In pre-taped episodes of Real Housewives of Orange County, Gunvalson is frequently shown defending Brooks to her fellow housewives, who did not believe he actually had cancer. Gunvalson last defended Ayers on an episode of Andy Cohen‘s Watch What Happens Live.

“I’m guilty of loving him and believing him. Who hasn’t believed someone that you loved?” the reality TV star said. “And why would you lie about cancer when I’ve had three friends die of it in the last two years? I had my dearest friend just die of stomach cancer.”

“As God as my witness, I would never want to make something up like this; it’s actually quite sick. I’m embarrassed,” Gunvalson went on. “I want to tell the girls I’m sorry.”

Earlier this week, Ayers released a statement confessing that he had never been treated at City of Hope, despite presenting documents earlier this month during an interview with E! News to prove the treatment.

“Words cannot express the deep regret that I have in fabricating documents to ‘prove’ to the world that I, in fact, have cancer,” Ayers told E! News Wednesday. “What I did was wrong and inexcusable. I acted alone, without Vicki’s knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest.”
