Trump Feuds With Debra Messing On Twitter About Fundraiser Attendees After Actress Calls Out Inaction On Gun Violence, Hurricane Dorian

Debra Messing and President Donald Trump began feuding over the weekend after the Will & Grace actress demanded the release of the names of all the people attending a fundraiser for the president in Beverly Hills, California.

“Please print a list of all attendees please. The public has a right to know,” 51-year-old Messing tweeted one day after retweeting an article from The Hollywood Reporter regarding the president’s planned appearance at the fundraiser, which is set to take place the same week as this year’s Emmy Awards on September 22.

Less than one day later, Trump fired back at Messing by saying he still remembers an incident in the early 2000s where Messing had called him “Sir’ and thanked him for reviving NBC’s lineup thanks to his gig as host of The Apprentice.

“I have not forgotten that when it was announced that I was going to do The Apprentice, and when it then became a big hit, helping NBC’s failed lineup greatly, @DebraMessing came up to me at an Upfront & profusely thanked me, even calling me ‘Sir.’ How times have changed!” Trump tweeted.

Trump is known for feuding with liberal celebrities, and Messing has also long been outspoken about her political opinions. The actress also took time to tweet about mass shootings and shared a post that included the number of casualties and injuries for each one. Messing urged the president to take action on gun violence by passing an assault weapons ban and enforcing universal background checks.

“Take Action and I’ll call you Sir,” Messing wrote.

Messing also mentioned Saturday’s shooting in Odessa, Texas, which killed seven people and injured more at least 22 others. The actress added she hoped more attention would also be devoted to helping the victims of Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm that struck Florida, the Carolinas and the Bahamas over the weekend and that has already left five dead.

Messing also shared her tweet about gun violence prevention on Instagram and called out Trump for focusing on her rather than on ending mass shootings with help from lawmakers like Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), the Senate majority leader. She also blasted the president for diverting $155 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Fund to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“What was on Trump’s mind in the midst of such tragedy, was me. The LAST thing that should be on his mind or in his tweets,” Messing wrote, adding the hashtag #25thamendment.

The 25th Amendment of the Constitution is used to call for the vice president to replace the president should the latter be deemed mentally unfit to perform his duties.
