Bob Barker has died at the age of 99.

The game show host’s publicist, Roger Neal, stated, “It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us.”

Barker’s career reached across eight decades. He was best known as the host of The Price Is Right, which regularly aired on CBS. He worked on the show for 35 years before he retired in 2007.

Barker was born in 1923, and he grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, where his mother was a teacher.

He served as a Navy fighter pilot during World War II. Afterward, he found a job hosting a radio show in Los Angeles. His success there led to his next career move as the host of the game show Truth or Consequences, but his job on The Price Is Right made him a recognized figure on television.

On the show, contestants faced off by attempting to guess the price of household products.

Barker became a star, earning appearances on TV shows like Family Guy and movies such as Happy Gilmore. In the 1996 comedy, Barker fights Adam Sandler on a golf course and knocks him out.

Barker also had a longstanding interest in protecting animal rights, establishing the DJ&T Foundation, which supported low-cost spaying and neutering services. At the end of each of his shows on The Price Is Right, he would always say, “This is Bob Barker, reminding you: Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.”
