Sunny Obama, the First Family’s newest dog, enthusiastically greeted a 2-year-old girl at a holiday event for military families on Wednesday, knocking her over in the process.

Obamas' Dog Knocks Down 2-Year-Old

First Lady Michelle Obama had Sunny by the leash as Ashtyn Gardner reached out to pet him. When the dog stood up on its hind legs, the First Lady tried to pull it back – but it was to no avail, as Gardner soon fell to the floor.

Gardener popped right back up after the incident with the help of the FLOTUS and didn’t shed a tear. After Michelle Obama got Sonny to lie down, the toddler resumed petting the pup with her gift bag in hand.

Gardener was visiting the White House for the annual holiday decorations art-and crafts event that the First Lady hosts for military families.

Holiday Season At The White House

Earlier on Wednesday, the First Lady had taken to Twitter to announce the White House’s 2013 holiday theme – “Gather Around: Stories of the Season.” She also posted a picture later that day with the Obama’s older – and more well-behaved – dog Bo greeting the military families at the holiday event.

More holiday season White House events are to come, including Friday’s National Christmas Tree lighting of the 18-and-a-half foot Douglas fir that arrived in the capitol last week. The celebration will be live-streamed and viewable here.
